Library Hosts Student Creativity Showcase
The faculty and staff of John Vaughan Library will host a a reception for the inaugural Student Creativity Showcase honorees. This new event seeks to showcase fine art, written works, musical or theatrical compositions, innovative processes and/or informational presentations that are the original creations of NSU students.
Driven by the philosophy that creative works do not always meet the criteria for scholastic or academic achievement awards, this event is specifically designed to recognize and honor the creative and original endeavors of students which might be taking place outside the classroom, but which fundamentally contribute to our collective knowledge base.
The honorees this year are Shawna Blake, of Muldrow, for an informative speech titled "Cutting Out Domestic Violence," Natasha Alterici, of Westville, for an original graphic novel titled "A Beautiful Nightmare." Mari Kumagai, of Tahlequah, for a 6-hands piano arrangement of Strauss' "Radetzky March," Sonny Skye Hawk, of Tahlequah, for an American Indian traditional Grass Dance, Elizabeth McKay, of Wagoner, for a liquid acrylic painting titled "Tango," Anthony Zumwalt, of Broken Arrow, for a metal figurative sculpture titled "The Dive," Lisa Michelle Rowland, of Tulsa, for an historical perspective titled "Katz Drug Store Sit-In," and Masa Uehara, of Tahlequah, for a choropleth mapping titled "U.S. Percent Elderly Demographics."
Honorees will be present to display and discuss their selected creative works during the reception at the John Vaughan Library on the NSU campus in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on Wednesday, April 22, from 2-4 p.m.
Dr. Craig Clifford will act as Master of Ceremonies and Dr. Sheila Collins will present certificates to the honorees. The event is open to the public.
